This mailing list was started as a way of communicating installation and configuration of Asterisk voice switches as tandems into legacy electromechanical CO switches and PBXes. Up until this time, if a switcher wanted to tie his step switch to his friend's crossbar, they would have to rent an expensive private trunk from local telcos and long distance facilities. Now, with Voice Over IP, these connections can be had for the price of an old computer, a PCI board, and an existing broadband internet connection. Using VoIP
To post a message to all the list members, send email to voip@ckts.info. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to VoIP
Subscribe to VoIP by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
