[VoIP] Naive question

Do they really use hardware codecs? I would think the codecs are
implemented in the DSP firmware and that the firmware can inherently
serve both ports simultaneously using independent compression algorithms.

Even if they are using hardware codecs and using the DSP to transcode or
implement the compression schemes, seemingly they would have to be able
to function independently.

I guess we need to figure out how to unlock these ATAs without wiping
out the Vonage configuration. Is there a list somewhere of all the ATAs
in popular use among CNET members at least? Maybe a page could be set
up where people could sign in and record their present equipment list,
including routers.

A pulse/tone converter that is compact and easy to build is also on my
personal wish list.
