[VoIP] Ernest Telecomm 7D-3 Payphone

I found it on Ebay. It was local, so for 80.00, it
seemed worth a gamble as there was no shipping.

It is completely line powered. There is only a small
nicad on the board for backup of some kind. It works
fine. It asks for .35/min for 7 digit calls and 2.35
for 65 minutes to ANY US 10 digit number. It dials an
800 number when dialing 0 or 00 to access operator
services. That works too.

It gives a phony dial tone. When I finish dialing and
it is asking for money, I can faintly hear it quickly
redial the first 3 numbers of what I dialed, then
slowly dial the remainder of the number while it waits
for coins. Depositing the correct coins makes it
quickly finish dialing. I guess that's to hold the
line against an incoming call.

It came with two housing keys, two coin box keys, a
T-wrench, a coin box and a mounting plate. It is in
very nice shape.

I had found that parts list. I'll give them a call
Monday to see what they have to offer.

There is a sticker on the board that says in
handwriting "DP002284". I was guessing it meant "Dial
Programming" and an access code. I tried punching that
in dozens of ways with the program switch thrown, but
no joy.

Throwing the program switch makes it go off hook and
go into a mode where one can dial with the receiver
on or off hook. Dialing * or # plus two digits
disables the keypad for a second, but no beeps, voice,
or feedback of any kind. Oh, the first time a key is
pressed in program mode, it gives a vey quick
single-tone beep before playing the DTMF of the key.

It does answer an incoming call with a 300-baud modem
tone after 8 rings.

The owner did not have a manual.
