Understood.  I guess it's not as common as I thought.
Wikipedia, not surprisingly, has an interesting bit
on it, and basically agrees with what has been said
in this thread:

They call the connector a "4P4C modular connector"
(for "4-Position, 4-Conductor").  I guess "xPyC"
is the standard generic nomenclature for the
jacks/connectors per se, separate from the RJ
specs.
