Lee,
I have had reasonable success with a Merlin Legend system. 8-trunk
caller ID boards are about $50, 8-station display phone boards are $15
or less. You can generally get a whole system for $200 or so. I just
bought 10 "yellowed" white MLX-10D phones (display, two-way
speakerphone, handsfree answer on intercom, etc) for $70 including
shipping on eBay ($7 apiece). You can also get ATL cards to use your old
Merlin phones, and regular analog cards for single line sets. The system
can also be set up to do pulse to tone and tone to pulse conversion --
it is a bit of a learning curve but all of the documentation, software
tools, and a lot of other information are available online for free.
