OK, went to a quiet room where there's a step switch station and dialed 
reorder.  I hear the 120 Hz hum you are talking about.  I suspect it's due 
to a coupling mismatch with the transformer I am using as it is not there 
on the output of the recording chip.  There's several taps on this WE 
repeating coil, I will try out the different windings.
