Those are nice, and would make things a little easier with a ready-to-go 
package, but IMHO it may be overkill.  There are very few external 
components needed with these chips and are thus easy enough to build up on 
a perf board, or even a quick setup on a breadboard for doing the recording 
part.  For the continuous looped output, all you need to connect on the 
chip is power and ground, strap three address lines and the play input to 
ground, and of course your audio output.  Done.

There are also different version of the chips for varying prices.  I am 
using the 1110s.
