And they also have OK rotary dial support, which was what drove me to
try
one out. The VT1005 works fine with rotary dials (of all vintages)
that
are in decent adjustment, but there are some dials that appear to be OK
and
work well on the step switch and the PSTN and the Mitel SmarT-1, but
simply
do not work with the VT1005. Probably the make/break ratio is a smidge
out
on those dials. I've also had dials that wouldn't work with the VT1005
one
day, and then be OK the next. Those are probably dials on the edge of
whatever the VT1005 accepts and varies with environmental
conditions. Whatever, the VT1005 is not 100% with rotary dials. I
believe
it was John J. who had a rotary phone that refused to work with the
VT1005,
sent the dial to be adjusted by dial expert Steve Hilsz, and the phone
then
worked for a short time with the VT1005 and then didn't again.
In short, for good rotary dial support (important for the collectors
among
us) it looks like one needs either a SmarT-1 kludge with a tone-only
ATA,
or a channel bank, each solution having its own advantages and
disadvantages.
Doug.
