Almost. (Speaking as a manufacturer) it's not only the socket, but the
extra ops to clean the socket and insert the chip in it.And the
increased failure rate due to intermittent socket connections.

It must have been late when I wrote this. I meant to say, rotary and
dtmf sets ... I have a 500 set and a 202 running on my VT1005.
