Greg, Tammy et all,
We never used ITEC but looked at it seriously in the 1986 88 time frame.
At the time we thought we would be getting a new switch to replace our AE
type 75 and 301 mixed amrriage. ITEC was promising because it allowed the
reuse of all power and tone plant and made for a much smaller foot print.
I believe they could do just about anything you might want with the ability
to do some of the programming available via strapping etc.
We did get a new siwtch but not the way we envisioned. Management wanted
to get us out of the "Private System" business and onmce we had cut over
150 mag set lines to OPXs off the 75 / 301 they cut a deal with Ameritech
for Centrex. So our switch went to a wall full of RJ21s with dial tonme on
one side and OPXes on the other. Now you may ask why bother bringing the
OPs into our location. We were also using them to back haul an alarm from
many of our substations. In those days the System Operations Center only
nedded to know there was an alarm at a substation to warrnat sending an
operator any time day or night. Today we of course don't have that luxury
with the very limited manpower.
Anyway we became the arbiter of RJ21s and the initial trouble shooting
because Ameritech of course did not have the ability to associate an OP
circuit ID with one of their Centrex Dialtones. With our alarm reciever
bridged in there also they wanted nothing to do with ther lash up so we
continued to do first level maintenance.
Many of these OPS still exist today and are tied down to my Detroit
Definity Tandem lcoated at our HQ. You may ask again why but the economics
of pulling out a grnadfathered OP and substituting a 1MB that requires
Positrion GPR fault proterction equipment is generally more than anyoine
here has or cares to budget for.
I have two ITEC connectors and a sghelf but haven't gotten tthem running
yet. Siomewhere I may have the documents on the EMS-1 as I think ITEC gave
us a copy whe n they were trying to sell us the EMS-1 product.

I think that's what fascinates me about it. I happen to have an AECO
connector, a WECO selector, and a generic XY switch or two. If I
understand things, I'll be able to use the ITEC to supply the missing
pieces, quite aside from the fact that it could be a stand-alone switch
as well.
