What phones are Cisco supporting for SIP then?

The 7970's, even with SIP, were never *designed* to be used on
anything but Cisco Call Manager or Call Manager Express.

Cisco has officially dropped any future support on the 7900 series of
phones for non-call manager based SIP call controllers.

We have quite a large number of 7960 and 7940 phones deployed with
customers.  Cisco has been good at fixing bugs we find, but no new
features are being released/supported outside of call manager.

That being said, I think people have got the newer CCM/SIP code to
work with Asterisk.
