Sure, the setup is very simple, I hit on it while
experimenting with different configurations.
>From default or factory settings, I changed the
following. BTW, I have the single-line unit, so all
the register numbers are for line 1. Change as needed:
================================================
User Dial Tone source, internal (I like the
old-fashioned Mitel dial tone) You could set to 4 to
pass through the dial tone: 109 4
Digit Recognition on Outgoing Calls, DTMF or Rotary:
132 0
DTMF outbound dialing 70 ms. duration: 102 3
Off-hook tone, disabled: 119 0
Turn on digit translation through search tables: 123 8
Clear Search Tables: 942 904
Set default route (0) for desired action: 615
#8032#007
In the above string, "#803" means "wait for precise
dial tone for 6 seconds, "2" means "Dial the Number",
"#00" means "Dial # after the digit timeout period
(optional, my ATA is set to use # to terminate
variable length dialing strings)" and "7" means "Cut
through, dialing finished".
Set digit search string for default route (0): 801
#9#8
In the above string, "#9" means "Match any dialed
digit" and "#8" means "prefer default route". Make
sure S24, which defines the default route, is set to
route 0.
======================================================
The search table will mach any first rotary digit and
go to route 0. Route 0 waits for a valid dialtone
(retrying if not found) and sends the first digit,
translated to DTMF. It will then wait for the
inter-digit timeout period, send a DTMF #, and cut
through. The interesting thing is that one can rotary
dial any number of digits after the first and they
will be translated to DTMF as they are dialed. After
the inter-digit time pause, the DTMF "#" is sent to
terminate the entry to the ATA. This allows any length
number of any number to be dialed.
I'm not sure if this behavior is specific to the
firmware in my Smart-1, but it works like this with
the route encoding mentioned above. Very convenient!
However, the user is still blocked from hearing any
sounds from the line side until the dialing is
completed and the call cuts through the Smart-1.
