I believe they are formally referred to as selector or elevator rods.
The popular term was "monkeys on a stick".

Since most Panel offices were in service well into the 1970s, most were
in fact converted to DDD the same way most #1XB units were: by the
addition of Auxiliary Senders, which also provided MF outpulsing
capability. If the Seattle equipment were equipped with the AUX SDRs
you would be able to call into the #1XB unit, which can only receive
MF. But unfortunately the museum does not have the AUX SDRs.
Most #1XB units were only able to store 8 digits, like Panel, and send
RP until AUX SDRs were added. Very late in the game, wirespring relay
subscriber senders and terminating senders were developed. This is what
the Seattle Museum has. The SUB SDRS provided Touch Tone calling and MF
O/P without additional equipment but the TERM SDRs lack RP receiving
capability, making them incompatible with the Panel.
