I have unplugged the fans from many (non-commercial) routers and never had one blow up fro overheating. IMO, if it is comfortable enough for people, the fan is probably optional.

it,
but
it
is
rack
mounted
away
from
my
office.
Plus
it
is
hard
to
hear
over
the
"Hummer"
My
battery
charger
that
I
had
to
press
into
service
after
my
switcher
failed.
Funny
how
poorly
the
channel
banks
and
SXS
system
worked
when
the
power
plant
dropped
to
39
volts!
Really
need
to
hook
up
a
low
battery
alarm!
