Yes, those funky redirects are extremely annoying. They could measure 
the number of downloads just fine by parsing their web server logs.

When you go to <http://downloads.digium.com/>, every link presented is 
actually a redirect.  If you navigate your way in, and want to download 
asterisk-1.2.26.tar.gz, you'll get this link:

<http://www.digium.com/elqNow/elqRedir.htm?ref=http://downloads.digium.com/pub/asterisk/old-releases/asterisk-1.2.26.tar.gz>

If you want to use wget, you'll need to strip off the redirector crap 
(everything from the "=" leftwards).

Thus, the following link will work with wget:

<http://downloads.digium.com/pub/asterisk/old-releases/asterisk-1.2.26.tar.gz>
