[VoIP] [TCI] Wanted: Equipment for New "Switcher"

I believe I advised Bruce several years ago to try and connect with Don.
Many want, but few will put forth the effort to do.
Don is a good natured fellow who LOVES to see his old obsolete stuff not
go to scrap, but into collectors hands.
I remember one time before a visit I sent him a photo of my switch,
which consists of many parts either used in Sharon, or in storage as
spares when Sharon was SXS, and when I arrived he was so happy to see
stuff reassembled and connected.
AE linegroups are big, some much bigger than WE, and building a smaller
size switch in addition to parts will require lots of time and drawings.
WE linefinders of the 33013/14 style are in short supply, but are easier
to use.
Anyone starting to build a switch not using whole shelves and a complete
linegroup may find it more satisfying to start with the connectors and
selectors. Closer to instant gratification by being able to dial into a
selector to a connector and see things move, and also less wiring.
Banks cut down to 3 or 4 wide also can get tedious as only one lucky
fellow can get the part of a 10 or 11 wide contact bank with the
terminal strip attached. The remainder will need the wires extended.
I found it much easier, less time consuming, and ultimately more
rewarding to have full shelf widths, and a complete linegroup.
That requires a strong floor, 7 foot ceiling height minimum, and between
6 and 12 feet of space, not counting accessory racks.
I only know of one person, Bill Wright, who built an AE demo switch in a
23 inch rack and had it working, years ago now, in Nashville. Not sure
who bought that from Bill when he moved.

Best of luck to all who put forth the effort building or even
reassembling a SXS switch.
