It's a good thing he wasn't named "Richard." :o)
I've seen pictures of WWII-era German radio equipment where frequencies
were marked in Hertz. I had wondered when the unit was named. Of
course it's no surprise that the US lagged in adopting the term, given
the spectacular failure of metrication here - I didn't start seeing it
on radios until the 1970s.
