[VoIP] Asterisk won't play sound (voice prompt) files

Hi John,
Asterisk is version 1.4.18. I downloaded, built and installed yesterday as a
way of "starting again". Asterisk started again but it did it silently
again.
The error is: "the file is not there."
So either asterisk is looking somewhere else (not in
/var/lib/asterisk/sounds) or the "find a compatible file type" logic doesn't
work. Either way I would have thought someone else would have the same
problem.
I don't like being special.
